Dear Parents,
I’m excited about the new school year and the opportunity to work with your child as he/she experiences fifth grade. There are a few things you can do to help your child have a successful school year. Ensure that your child attends school regularly and arrives on time each day. Frequent tardies and absences make it difficult for any child to progress. Students arriving after 8:00 AM will be considered TARDY. If students arrive after 8:10 AM, the student will need to obtain a pass from the front office to be admitted to class. Absences must be reported via the attendance line at 754-322-9102 or written note. The report must come from a parent and give the date(s) of the absence and the reason for it. Parents MUST report these absences within two days following the absences. A note can be sent either the day before or not later than the second day after the absence. Please feel free to email the front office (data processor) your child's absence. As a partner in your child’s educational growth, parents are to participate in two conferences during the school year. I use a positive approach with discipline in the classroom. Class rules and procedures are important so that each child can have an environment conducive to learning. Homework and nightly reading are very important for your child. It provides him/her with practice on skills that we have worked on in the classroom. It also provides you with the opportunity to work with your child and help monitor his/her progress. Homework assignments will be in your child’s daily folder. Please check your child’s folder each night for completed class work, homework and notices. Students need to return folders to school each day. If you would like to volunteer in the classroom, school, or be a chaperone for a field trip, please go online and complete the volunteer application at the following website: http://browardschools.com/getinvolved/application-note This process may take up to three weeks for approval. Please plan ahead. Please feel free to contact me if you have a concern, question or wish to discuss your child’s progress. Together we can ensure that your child has an exciting and successful school year. Thank you for your support and cooperation. Your favorite ELA teacher, Ms. Camille V. Clair |
